Helplessness

A little story of what's going on right now:

My life was once a world of agony. My mother was gone, killed by the eternal curse known as cancer. I felt like I would be forever trapped behind the bars of structure, bound with monotony and gagged with drudgery. I felt utterly, utterly helpless and alone.

But then a candle, a tiny flame, flickered within my dark prison. I saw that a career as a self employed artist was, in fact, possible. My dreams from childhood surfaced once again as the chains fell off my body, wings of hope sprouting from my back and carrying me towards the sunlight. My heart sang with joy, almost beating up out of my chest.

But before I ever got close to escaping, I was struck down. My father broke my wings in one fell swoop, telling me that my dreams were impossible. I plummeted towards the rocky ground and struck it hard, my restraints eagerly reclaiming my wrists and ankles.

And now I'm back at the beginning.

...My true story novel, Into the Nothing!





This will be the chronicles of the road trip I've been dreaming of all my life, encompassing a good chunk of the state of Florida. Among the locations are: Orlando (I'm a HUGE theme park buff), Amelia Island, Key West, St. Petersburg, Jacksonville (where my parents became engaged), Boca Grande (where I used to vacation as a little girl), Biscayne National Park, and Europe.

Europe?! Yes. The trip will culminate in a Disney Cruise: the one week Mediterranean one. So whatever friend goes with me will have to be up for a LOT of adventure (lol).

...Speaking of the trip, I believe that I might have finally found a friend to go with me. He has a job, so he can pay for his own stuff, and he's pretty laid-back. I might be asking him tomorrow. Please wish me luck!

Hello, world! My name is Katie Hamilton. As the title of this blog implies, I am a fiction writer. This blog will contain snippets of stories that I've written, synopses of work-in-progress novels, and the occasional poem or personal narrative.

Here's some announcements of my current and future projects:

GIFTED: Gifted is my first ever full length novel. And it will be BIG. While I don't want to give away too much of the plot, I can sum it up: 

"In the seven years of her life that were not lost to amnesia, Amaranth Meadowlark has never set foot outside her mother's farm. But when a shocking incident turns her life upside down, she must leave the farm and embark on a journey encompassing several nations. Accompanied by her egotistical, baseball loving best friend, she must accomplish her goals and find her unknown sister if she is to recover the memories that were stolen from her. But a dangerous enemy stalks them at every turn, hell-bent on capturing her. For within her lies a power that can destroy the world..."

Vague, I know. But I promise, all will be revealed once I publish Gifted.

FAIRYTALE REDUXES: The beloved stories we all knew as children, turned into a series set in the modern era. First in the line is WONDERLAND. As the name implies, it will be a modern retelling of Alice in Wonderland... with a teenage boy named Ellis in the role of Alice. I'll let the synopsis do the talking:

"Conspiracies, romance, and rebellion against dictatorships abound as 17 year old Ellis Liddel is caught up in a battle with the evil and cold hearted Red Tyrant (gender pending)."

And no, it doesn't say "gender still pending" because I can't decide on a gender for the Red Tyrant. It is ambiguously sexed throughout the entire story. 

With that, I gotta run. But I'll post more about future projects later!
